Closeburn House was built in the late 1800’s by Mrs Mary Theresa Alice Kirkpatrick. Mary named her home Closeburn House after the village of Closeburn in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland where Closeburn Castle still stands and was the family seat of the Kirkpatrick family until 1783.
Closeburn House has periodically operated as an upmarket guesthouse for more than a century. In the early 1900’s, Closeburn House laid on what became the main western highway route with the opening of Berghofer’s Pass, which became popular with the new motor vehicles that baulked at the steep gradient of Victoria Pass.
Closeburn House was extensively restored and extended in 1990. It later changed ownership but then suffered from a decade of neglect.
In 2018 it was brought back to life after an extensive renovation of the house and grounds, and now Closeburn House Boutique Guesthouse continues its rich history of hospitality offering a beautiful mountain retreat to all of its guests and visitors.
Our 8 guest suites are spacious and bright, with calming colour palettes chosen from the hues of the mountains, queen size beds topped with organic fibre mattresses and crisp white linens, a separate ensuite bathroom (with bath), sumptuous bathroom amenities and walls adorned with original artworks of local landscapes.
Quiet, contemporary, understated luxury and comfort.
We invite our guests to make themselves at home at Closeburn House. Our Lounge, Conservatory and Library are richly decorated spaces in which to relax and reconnect with loved ones or a much-loved book. And being fully licensed, you’re very much encouraged to do so with some excellent regional wines that we’ve carefully selected for your enjoyment. Our well-stocked bar showcases the talented winemakers and brewers of the region.
Your stay with us includes our sensational 2-course, a la carte breakfast, free commercial-grade wi-fi throughout and luxury bathroom amenities.
Being an adults-only ‘getaway from it all’ destination, we regret that Closeburn House is not suitable for children and infants under 16, and as such we are unable to accommodate them.
